Horseback Archery

Kassai USA is the American branch of the Kassai School of Horseback Archery. The Kassai School of Horseback Archery was started in Hungary by Kassai Lajos. The Kassai system treats horseback archery as a martial art; providing the necessary structure, discipline, and training system to promote advancement. There are twelve levels or degrees recognized within the system. An examination system defines these levels. The right to test for rank is obtained after achieving the appropriate scores in sanctioned competitions. Competence in archery and riding skills are tested.

Todd Delle has been appointed the leader for Kassai USA. Todd has been training with Kassai since 2000. Todd Delle provides instruction and holds two competitions per year in Kalispell, MT. Horseback archery requires excellent riding skills and is an extremely instinctive archery style. Target distance and angles quickly change as you gallop down the track, and there is no time to aim. A traditional archery style with fixed anchor point does not work well on a running horse. We practice a blind nocking technique and a slightly different archery style to allow fast nocking and shooting while on horseback. Training involves a lot of work on ground exercises as well as many riding exercises.
